Heart & Stroke - Blended BLS Provider Program
BLS Blended Provider is the fundamental course for all healthcare and emergency medical providers, delivered in a flexible format. The course covers the same curriculum and teaches the same skills as the traditional instructor-led course but is delivered online through self-paced learning modules. Then followed by an in-classroom training to offer a comprehensive experience. The course covers single- and multi-rescuer basic life support skills, focusing on high-quality CPR and team dynamics in a wide variety of prehospital and in-facility settings.
Content
The following items are covered in this Heart & Stroke - Blended BLS Provider Program class:
- Participants complete the mandatory online component
- Participants must complete a 2 hr in-class skills assessment and evaluation session
- Participants will have access to the online portion for uptown 1 year.

1-2 hrs online, in-class 2 hrs
Prerequisites
The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:
- Completion of the online portion must be presented to the instructor at the start of the in-class portion.
- (BLS is a prerequisite for advanced resuscitation courses and many healthcare-related training programs. A current completion card is often required for employment in the healthcare field.)
Description
The Heart and Stroke Foundation has implemented a three (3) person minimum per course in order for courses to run. In the event of only two people present at the start of the program, AHASTI is required to cancel the course and reschedule candidates without exception.
All participants will be registering for the in-class skills assessment and evaluation. The online will be issued Mon-Fri from 8am - 4pm and must be completed prior to attending the in-class.
The BLS Blended Provider course is designed for first-time BLS learners and those who do not use their BLS skills regularly. After successfully passing the online component (self-directed, but typically approx. 1 - 2 hours), students attend a 2-hour in-person skills practice and evaluation session. Students have access to the online learning environment for 1 year.
Certifications Earned
Upon successful completion of this program you will have earned the following tickets:
- BLS Provider
- Valid for: 1 year*
- Heart & Stroke recommends annual renewal of BLS skills.

CME/CPD Credits
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Eligible for two (2) credits per hour under Section 2 of the MOC Program as “Traineeships”.

Heart & Stroke courses are recognized across Canada. We are committed to continuous assessment and accreditation. Check with your college or professional affiliation to see if this course is eligible for credits.
